Habitat for Humanity

Each year First Presbyterian Church partners with Habitat for Humanity to help a deserving family build a home. This year we will be working alongside Randy and Jamie Waters who are very excited about building their new home for them and their three children.

  • Dates: September 19, 20, 26, 27 and October 3 & 4
  • Location: Park Preserve neighborhood in the I-24/Briley Parkway area. We will send more details and directions on the location about a week before the build starts.
  • Volunteers: Everyone, age 16 and up.  (Ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult)

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville has new safety measures on site this build season!

2020 has presented some extra challenges this year therefore we are following the new approach that Habitat has adopted to address COVID-19 safety measures which they have been using successfully since April of this year.

They include:

  • Habitat volunteers will follow recommended CDC guidelines for social distancing.
  • Any volunteer or staff member who does not feel well or who is running a temperature, showing signs of acute respiratory illness or difficulty breathing should not come to the build site.
  • Volunteers will work in two groups of 10 or less and the groups will work separately.
  • All volunteers will be given new, personal protective equipment (PPE) – hardhat, safety glasses, gloves and a face covering and will be required to wear these items while on the build site. Volunteers may bring their own face coverings, gloves and safety glasses, personal sunglasses and/or regular glasses will substitute for safety glasses. No PPE will be shared.
  • Habitat construction staff and SOS will also wear PPE.
  • Hand washing stations and hand sanitizer stations will be available at the build site.
  • Portalets will be cleaned daily.
  • In order to provide a safe and sanitary environment all food will be served in individual disposable containers (boxed lunch style).

The most important thing you can bring is enthusiasm and flexibility.

What is a build day like?

Fun and rewarding! The day will start around 7:00am with orientation and we’ll start working around 7:30am. Most of us will work as teams on various tasks throughout the house. Habitat will provide all the tools and knowledge. Due to safety breakfast snacks will not be provided this year. Please eat beforehand or bring your snack and coffee. Lunch will be at 11:30AM and then we’ll wrap up around 3:30pm. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville has implemented the following measures on site this build season to keep our volunteer’s safe. How do I sign up?

Easy. Below you’ll find a sign-up link for our build day(s). Click on that link and then sign up for the date you prefer. Add your name and email address, and that’s it! Habitat will send you the specific directions and details as we get closer to the build day.

Lunch Volunteers

This year we have to take a different approach. Lunch volunteers will arrive at the site by 11:15am and be prepared to serve by 11:30am when build team breaks for lunch.
