Volunteer to Serve Lunch to Downtown Homeless
In 2001 First Presbyterian Church was asked by the Downtown Presbyterian Church to furnish lunch for the homeless persons of Nashville the second Wednesday of each month. The Downtown Church had provided lunches for the homeless every Wednesday since about 1982 and felt it needed some help with expenses.
FPC was pleased to participate and has been paying for about 225 lunches each week and providing about 4-5 of our church members to help serve it. Most of the year adults volunteer, but in the summer our youth provide the service. Annually, over 10,00 lunches are served by the Downtown Presbyterian Church to the Nashville homeless on Wednesdays.
The Downtown Church has it own loyal volunteers who serve every Wednesday and we as a church are glad to join them. Currently, Paulino Jarquin is the buyer of the food, the cook and the coordinator of this ministry for the church. Rev. Ken Locke is the minister at Downtown Presbyterian Church.
You can volunteer to serve from 12:00-1:15pm. Downtown Presbyterian Church is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Church Street. You may either catch a ride from FPC at 11:30am, or meet us downtown. To volunteer, contact Amelia Watson at 298-9598 or awatson@fpcnashville.org. |
