The beautiful Lake Geneva was the backdrop for many of our activities throughout the week of our Great Escape. It was most appropriate that we were learning so much about Jesus in this setting; a man who ministered, taught and witnessed so often near a lake himself.
Each morning a devotion time was held out on the dock. We would meet to sing praise songs, share prayer concerns and hear a brief devotional in the morning sun. What a wonderful way to feel the grand presence of God by feeling the wind on your face and hearing nature awaken to a new day.
The dock and lakeside were favorite places for quiet times and small group discussions as well. The quiet ripple of the waves lapping at the shoreline provided a soothing backdrop for our time with God.
Afternoons provided plenty of opportunities to enjoy a lake swim, sun bathe or take a canoe outing during Free Time. Of course, just grabbing an ice cream cone or cold drink from the snack shop to enjoy while hanging out with new or familiar friends was a favorite pasttime, too.
We learned about the apostle Peter from our evening speaker, Duffy Robbins; especially that, like Peter, God will often take us into the "deep-end" of the waters requiring us to "depend" on Him. The beautiful Lake Geneva was a constant reminder that God will lift us out of troubled waters when we choose to trust and keep our focus on Him. |
