Jamaica – February 2019

mountains near Mandeville, Jamaica

High atop the mountains in south central Jamaica sits a camp called Moorlands. Founded in 1938, it continues its original mission of sharing the gospel with children and youth near and far from Spur Tree Hill.

This picturesque campsite is the base for mission teams from First Presbyterian Church, Nashville, which has sent both adult and youth teams for more than 20 years.

At present, we partner with our sister denomination, The United Church, in Jamaica. Specifically, our Mandeville partner is the Andrews Memorial United Church. This vibrant church located in the heart of Mandeville is passionate about missions and seeks to serve the poor by offering healthcare clinics, school tutoring and evangelism through Sunday School offerings and worship services in their communities. They are active also in supporting several area schools by ensuring that children have access to quality education when families lack resources to cover uniform or other educational out-of-pocket expenses.

FPC member and Ebenzer Primary School childrenThe 2019 trip is planned for February 9-16  with opportunities to serve as construction labor, educational assistance, dental clinic services, food sustainability project development or evangelism outreach. J.T. Martin is the trip leader.
