Medical Clinics in Guatemalan Villages
The Presbytery of Middle Tennessee has established a formal partnership with the Presbytery of the Peten through it Guatemala Task Force.
In 2009, a medical mission trip is planned for June 26 - July 4. Physicians, RNs, PAs, and NPs are needed, but non-medical participants are also welcome and can be trained to provide essential services.

1) Who is served?
The Kekchi indigenous people, a particular tribe of descendents of the Mayans who live in the Mayan Peten in rural Guatemala (west of Belize) on the southern border of Mexico.
2) How are mission projects chosen?
All of our projects are planned only after conversation between the executive committee of the Presbytery of the Peten and the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee's Guatemala Task Force.
3) What will the medical team members do?
They will work in medical clinics in the Mayan Kekchi villages providing general diagnosis, disease screening, eyeglasses, and fluoride treatments. The members of the team will train and work alongside the indigenous health promoters.
4) Do I need to be able to speak Spanish?
No, translators will be provided for both Spanish and Kak'chi, the language of our partners.
5) Who is our local ground support?
Guatemalan mission workers for the PCUSA, Roger and Gloria Marriott from Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, and PRESGOV, a local Guatemalan Presbyterian organization.
6) What personal health precautions do I need?

7) What are the lodging and travel arrangements?
We will spend the night in hotel rooms with air conditioning and indoor plumbing and ride buses to the villages.
