Marathoners for Mission - Round 4

If you thought 3 times was a charm to cure them of their mad desire to run marathons, you'd be wrong!

They're at it again - this time it's the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, October 9, 2005. And they haven't forgotten one of the reasons they are running - to raise money for the FPC Missions program. During each of the past two years Marathoners for Missions has raised $6,000. In 2003, the inaugural year, the funds were donated to the general missions scholarship fund to provide assistance to FPC members going on misison trips themselves while last year the funds were contributed to Kadesh Joy, an organization managed by FPC member Diann Mustin. Click here to read a letter from the Marathoner Team.

This group consists of a dozen or so runners ranging from a couple of serious year-around marathon runners to the occasional joggers. Most of them fall somewhere in between. But they do train together, enjoy the fellowship of these runs and support the missions of the church through their efforts. Here is the list of the fall runners: Jim Baker, Mike Baron, Lorraine Bittles, Steve Butler, Mark DeVries, Steve Douse, Anne Hancock, Bill Heim, Bonnie Heim, Karen Poth, Mike Sowers, Royce Williams, and Johnny Woods.

If you'd like to train with the group, call Damon Byrd at 297-2146 or Anne Hancock at 202-3156. If running isn't your thing, put October 9th on your calendar anyway and plan to cheer on the FPC runners from afar (or in person if the you feel the Windy City calling you).

You can support this crazy group of runners by sponsoring any of them by agreeing to contribute a specific amount per mile or just pledging a flat sum. Click here to view/print a pledge form. All funds received through these efforts will be added to the FPC Missions budget to expand the generous work already being done by our church. Be sure to note "MARATHONERS FOR MISSION" in the memo portion of your check. Any amount is much appreciated!
