2004 Great Escape to Wisconsin
Welcome to The Great Escape 2004 in Lake Geneva Wisconsin! Come discover why this week is Erika Emerick's favorite week of the whole year! This year's theme had an "EGYPTIAN" flair..."The Secret of Dunamis". We found our action hero searching for the great archeological artifact called "Dunamis"...which is actually the Greek word for Power and found in this year's GE theme verse: "But He said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9. Many of our youth found this scripture to be a catalyst in getting to know Jesus better and found that in weakness you discover God's strength. Surrounded by the beauty of Lake Geneva and the fellowship of our church family (including 2 of our fabulous pastors, Todd Jones and Mark DeVries) we enjoyed meeting other church families from Wisconsin to Texas. Whether on the playing fields, during chow time or in singing and worship, fun was shared by all! And man do we sing and worship!! The bands were totally awesome... many new friendships were formed ...AND we had BEN GLENN THE CHALK GUY for 4 STRAIGHT DAYS!! And it just kept getting better!! FPC Nashville did us proud by coming in FIRST PLACE in the ping pong and football tournaments...second in basketball! Tuesday night was an all camp FEAR FACTOR Night with Ben Carswell and Davis Denney eating slimy, chocolate pudding through a pair of hose! We concluded the week with a far out dance with glow in the dark everything! Perhaps the highlight of our trip was Commitment night where several of our youth made commitments to follow Christ. Our family time together that night enlarged each of our hearts and opened our eyes to the struggles we all sometimes face. Surrounded by church family, prayers of love and support were shared as our youth grow into their openness to God's work in their lives. GOD IS SO GREAT! And so is the Great Escape!! Come join us in 2005!
