First Presbyterian Church recently formed a Disaster Response Committee to offer help with cleanup following a natural disaster as well as make available the extensive resources within the church in the areas of insurance specialists, construction experts, lawyers, accountants, and possibly others.
In the event a tornado or other large scale natural disaster comes through our area and your home is damaged, one option you have - after you secure your family's safety and the initial threat to life and limb has passed - is to contact the church and let our Disaster Response Team know of your need. You may have trees down or portions of your home damaged, and you need help with cleanup of what's left of your property. You may need to talk with someone with expertise about insurance, or legal, or tax, or home repair.
To facilitate this offering, the church needs to marshal volunteers and inventory resources ahead of time to provide the best possible response in the most expeditious manner. That's where you are needed. You may have a chain saw (and know what to do with it), or a truck, or wheelbarrow, or wet vac, or other similar equipment useful in clearing debris. You may be an insurance representative, or attorney, or be familiar with tax law, or know something about rebuilding a home - and would be willing to give some of your time at the most critical time for someone else. If you would like to volunteer yourself for possible service during a natural disaster, you can do so by completing the volunteer application below.
If you have any questions or other suggestions about being a part of the First Presbyterian Church Disaster Response Team, please contact the church's Missions Office at 615-298-9593 or adultmissions@fpcnashville.org.
