TJ '07 (our high school spring break youth mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico) was an amazing experience this year, and we are so grateful for the time we had together just south of the border. Thanks to the help of 37 youth and 7 leaders, we were able to help build three small houses with concrete floors, sturdy walls, and protective roofs for several Mexican families in need of safe, dry living quarters.
We spent our dayight hours building, each discovering how to contribute to the task of constructing an 11 by 22 foot home and also picking up some new skills along the way. We spent our evenings back at camp: eating, singing, laughing, and talking around the campfire until the warmth of our sleeping bags called us to our tents for much-needed rest!
We finished all three houses, which are right next door to one another; we are so excited to know that the families we came to love in those four days will have suitable shelter for the days ahead.
We also are thankful for the experience we had in community with each other, and come home a little more thankful for the gift of communion with friends, with strangers, and with our Heavenly Father, who teaches us to pour out our lives in remembrance of Him.
Enjoy our photos and think about joining us next year!
