Missions’ Pastor Letter

Dear Friends,

Following His resurrection, Jesus commissioned His disciples with these words:

And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’ (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Great Commission is the foundation of the mission program and ministry of First Presbyterian Church. There is a direct correlation between Jesus’ commission and the stated mission of First Presbyterian Church, “To know Christ, to make Him known and to exhibit His love through worship, education and service.”

Through the mission ministry of our church, we seek to share our Christian faith in deed as well as in word, to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ even as we make and nurture Christian disciples and to support ministries and missionaries in our community and throughout the world. Jesus calls us to be the missionary people of God. But no one individual or church can fulfill this mission call alone. Together, as the body of Jesus Christ, we share our blessings and our gifts of time, talents and material offerings.

Our church members are invited to participate in mission efforts supported by your contributions to First Presbyterian Church. We invite you to volunteer for a local mission in our community; to engage in a mission team adventure in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Haiti or East Africa or to help us host 14 homeless men one night a week during the coldest winter months.

Our missions are entered into prayerfully in the name of Jesus Christ. We have found serving Jesus Christ to be a privilege and a blessing, blessing us even as we seek to be a blessing to others.

Thanks be to God!
